In August, it will be 7 years that The Hackers Voice has been operational. We need to start thinking about ways to celebrate this and ideas with possible locatio/events/activities.

With the good weather and bank holidays coming a three day hacker camp could be doable.

So we have two ideas so far for venue.

1) We do a hack camp party
2) We do a party at our hack space.

Not really. Both things were voted on equally and I guess we can do both but I'd like to do a camp soon anyway.

To be fair as nice as it is having a scoring system and original challenges its not really necessary unless you have a group of pros or people that play a lot. Even then looking at some of the big world comps, you get a lot of tool jockeys. If you want to get people to play with it your best bet would be installing damn vulnerable Linux within a VM and just have the machine restore the VM every hour.

I am just now organising a date. It will be the same place as the last Hack Camp.

My idea is kinda along those lines, im gonna (mis)configure a install of ubuntu server with a httpd and some other bits and bobs and then make a live cd from the install, people can have a crack at it one at a time, with a time limit, then when the time is up all I need to do is reboot the box. Most of the flags/objectives arnt going to be related to vulnerabilities, instead it will be nostalgia and cryptic riddles in strange protocols ;) At this time im still doing the base install, so the scope might change slightly, but im trying to keep the flags away from anything that nessus will find.

Hopefully if i can gather the strength to stop playing quake, i might get some stuff done ;)

I'm not really much of a fan of one at a time, it tends to be slow and boring, I like the gang bang approach, shit coming at the box from all angles and all ports and you have to watch your own bum fudge just encase. :)

I like the gang bang approach too but that's a story for another time.
